Afin de conserver son bateau en bon état, il faut respecter certaines étapes d’entretien indispensables, tel que l’application de l’antifouling. En effet, celui-ci permet de préserver la coque contre la colonisation des bactériens et pour qu’elle soit efficace, il est indispensable de la renouveler tous les ans.
Qu’est-ce que l’antifouling ?
L’antifouling est une peinture qu’on applique sur la carène d’un bateau (la partie basse de la coque), voire sur l’hélice, afin de la protéger.
Comment ça marche ? En libérant des toxines biocides, l’antifouling freine la prolifération de parasites sur la carène du bateau tels que les algues et les coquillages. En effet, ces parasites fixés sur la coque abîment le gelcoat à long terme. Ils peuvent aussi limiter la vitesse du bateau et donc provoquer une augmentation de la consommation de carburant.
La peinture antifouling a donc pour effet de protéger le gelcoat du bateau et d’améliorer ses performances. Elle est donc indispensable pour éviter l’usure prématurée du bateau.
Comment choisir le bon antifouling pour son bateau ?
Il existe plusieurs types d’antifouling que voici :
- antifouling autopolissant
- antifouling à matrice dure
- antifouling sans biocide
le choix doit se faire en prenant en compte quatre paramètres :
- Le type de bateau : s’il s’agit par exemple d’un bateau rapide, ou d’un bateau lent
- L’utilisation du bateau : s’il reste au port toute l’année ou s’il est mis en hivernage
- La fréquence d’utilisation du bateau : occasionnelle ou fréquente
- L’environnement dans lequel il évolue : eaux douce, eaux salée, eau froide, eau chaude, zones agressives, marées, courants…
Ces différents paramètres influent sur la longévité de la peinture antifouling. C’est pourquoi, il est difficile de définir à l’avance et avec précision un moment fixe pour refaire l’antifouling de son bateau. Il est vivement conseillé de vérifier son état au début de chaque saison de navigation afin de se donner un ordre d’idée.
Les étapes d’application d’antifouling
Pour naviguer avec une carène propre, il faudrait caréner le plus tard possible avant de larguer les amarres
- La préparation de la carène.
Il faut organiser le carénage en fonction du temps d’application et des délais recommandés pour la mise à l’eau (minimum et maximum après l’application de l’antifouling).
Sur une carène déjà peinte, il faut laver la coque dès sa sortie de l’eau avec un nettoyeur haute pression assisté au besoin d’un grattoir. Éliminez autant que possible les anciennes couches d’antifouling.
Sur une carène neuve, il faut dégraisser au détergent, dépolir avec un papier abrasif à l’eau et passer enfin un primaire d’accrochage compatible avec la peinture choisie.
- Avant la peinture.
Il faut masquer la ligne de flottaison avec du scotch de masquage et
protéger toutes les parties qui ne devront pas être peintes (sondes, anodes…).
- Application de la peinture.
L’application de l’antifouling se fait au rouleau et au pinceau mais on peut aussi utiliser un pistolet à peinture pour obtenir une surface plus lisse.
Appliquez au moins deux couches de façon délicate. L’épaisseur permet une meilleure protection.
Vous l’aurez compris, un bon antifouling est capital pour conserver son bateau en bon état, et garder ses passagers en toute sécurité.
