En effet, selon les dernières études, on a constaté que 80% des accidents en mer concernaient des bateaux de plaisance et non des bateaux dits professionnels tels que les chalutiers, porte-containers, marine marchande… Autre information importante, le non port du gilet de sauvetage est l’une des premières causes de noyade sachant que l’espérance de vie après une chute à la mer est significative : 290 minutes avec un gilet, 90 minutes sans. A vous de choisir !
En Europe, tous les gilets de sauvetage doivent correspondre aux normes et posséder le label CE prévu par la réglementation. Depuis le 1er juin 2019, quelques modifications ont été apportées à la règlementation afin d’encourager le port du gilet.
Bien que le gilet ne soit pas obligatoire sur un bateau de type annexe qui navigue à moins de 300 mètres de son bateau d’origine. Il est fortement recommandé d’embarquer une aide à la flottabilité de 50N pour chaque personne présent sur l’annexe.
Aide à la flottabilité 50N
L’aide à la flottabilité 50 N est surtout dédié à un type de pratique spécifique et ressemble plus à une brassière.
Cette dernière est surtout adaptée pour un pratiquant qui navigue sous couvert d’un bateau accompagnant pour la sécurité (ski nautique, voile, wakeboard…). S’ils tombent, ils seront facilement récupérés par le bateau qui les accompagne.
Par ailleurs, les gilets 50 N ne possèdent pas de sifflets, ni de bandes réfléchissantes, ni de boucle de repêchage et surtout, ils n’assurent pas le retournement ni ne retient la tête hors de l’eau. De plus, leurs couleurs ne sont pas fixés par la règlementation.
Gilet de sauvetage 100N
Sachez que c’est à partir de 100 N de flottabilité qu’on peut employer le terme de « gilet de sauvetage », c’est le minimum pour assurer le retournement et le soutien de la tête. C’est également le minimum pour flotter sans savoir nager et où la notion de repérage est sérieusement prise en compte avec une couleur vive du gilet imposée, des bandes réfléchissantes et un sifflet, ce qui n’est pas le cas avec l’aide la flottabilité 50 N.
Gilets gonflables 150N
Les gilets gonflables ne sont disponibles qu’à partir de 150 N. Ces gilets sont hologués peu importe la distance et permet une meilleure sécurité que tous les autres modèles. En effet, ils contiennent tous les accessoires qui ont été cités ci-dessus en plus d’en avoir d’autres (lampes, capuches etc…)
La sécurité des enfants
Il faut équiper les enfants d’un gilet de sauvetage adapté à leur poids.
Avec la nouvelle division 240, pour un enfant au-delà de 30kg, qui ne sait pas forcément nager, il lui faudra porter un gilet adulte de 100 newton et ceci quelque soit la distance.
